Local track and field athletes made their 2024 debuts during the Russ Edwards Big C Relays at The Dome in Anchorage.
Palmer’s Avery Johnson led all Valley athletes with a runner-up finish in the girls high jump, with a mark of 4 feet, 10 inches. Abby Pettit was also third in the girls shot put, with a distance of 35-8.75. Leila Petersen was fifth in the girls 400 for the Moose.
Alexia Pike led Redington with a third-place finish and throw of 103-5 in the girls discus. Mya Campbell was seventh for the Huskies in the girls high jump.
Ella Hopkins used a pair of top-five finishes to lead the Colony girls. Hopkins was third in the 800 meters and fifth in the 3,200. Halie Sandstrom placed sixth in the high jump, and Aubrey Virgin finished seventh in the 300 hurdles and eighth in the 3,200 for the Knights.
Caelynn Carter was third in the 300 hurdles for the Wasilla girls, and McKinley Hafin placed seventh in the long jump.
Colony’s Trevor Jamison led Valley athletes in the boys class, with a third-place finish in the high jump. Ben Holladay placed fourth in the discus and sixth in the shot put. Tobias Buchanan was sixth in the 3,200 for the Colony boys.
Redington’s Myles Campbell was also eighth in the boys high jump.
