ANCHORAGE — Susitna Valley senior Dawson Matthews scored a team-high 19 points to lead Team Yellow to an 80-70 win over Team Blue during the 1A/2A boys senior all-star game at Dimond High School Saturday afternoon.
Matthews, who was named first-team all-state with the Talkeetna-area school, also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds in one of four all-star games hosted by the Alaska Association of Basketball Coaches. Matthews shot 50 percent from the field, and hit a trio of three-pointers.
Matthews was one of nine Valley players named to the fifth-annual all-star games.
In the 3A/4A boys game, Wasilla’s Alex Baham scored seven points to help Team Blue earn a 100-92 win over Team Yellow. Colony’s Grant Dinkel was named to Team Blue, but did not play due to injury. Wasilla’s Cameron Brown finished with two points and two rebounds for Team Yellow.
In the 3A/4A girls game, Colony’s Sarah Brumbaugh and Ashley Turcotte helped Team Yellow earn a 64-59 victory over Team Blue. Brumbaugh finished with four points and three rebounds. Turcotte had two points and seven rebounds. Wasilla’s Machia Toews and Cassidy Edwards, and Colony’s Faith Farris played for Team Blue. Toews grabbed six rebounds. Edwards had four rebounds. Farris finished with six points, six rebounds and two assists.
