A handful of Valley athletes earned gold during the Native Youth Olympics 2023 Senior Games April 20-22 in Anchorage.
Lydia Alverts earned three individual titles for the Chickaloon team. Alverts was first in the scissor broad jump, one hand reach and one foot high kick.
Three athletes won events for the Mat-Su team. Mya Campbell won the girls wrist carry, Caelyn Carter placed first in the girls Alaskan high kick and McCrae Mills was the winner of the girls seal hop.
The trio helped the Mat-Su squad finish second overall in the team standings with 39 total points.
Campbell placed in the top five in four different events. She was also second in the one foot high kick, fourth in the scissor broad jump and fifth in the Alaskan high kick. Carter placed in three events, also finishing second in the kneel jump and fifth in the scissor broad jump.
Kamryn Petito was second for Mat-Su in the girls wrist carry. Riley Malone was fourth in the one hand reach and Solana Lucas placed fifth in the Indian stick pull.
Deshawn Campbell led the Mat-Su boys with runner-up finishes in the scissor broad jump and two foot high kick, and was also fifth in the Alaskan high kick. Myles Campbell was third in the two foot high kick and fourth in the wrist carry.
