FAIRBANKS — A pair of Mat-Su Valley athletes earned state titles during the ASAA/First National Bank State Track and Field Championships at Lathrop High School in Fairbanks on Friday.
Wasilla senior John Knowles won the boys’ state shot put for the second year in a row with a throw of 50 feet, 8 1/4 inches. Houston senior Danielle Barney finished first in the girls’ discus. Barney became the first Houston athlete to win a state title in school history.
