MAT-SU — The candidate lists are final this evening after the close of the official filing period in Houston, Palmer, Wasilla and the Mat-Su Borough.
Clerks in those cities and the Borough stopped taking candidate registrations promptly at 5 p.m. today.
With the exception of a lively Wasilla mayoral race, the election will hold few surprises as both people running for Mat-Su Borough Assembly seats are unopposed, along with two unopposed residents seeking two of three available school board seats.
The race for Wasilla mayor has five men in the running, and Houston City Council has eight people running for four seats. In Houston, Paul Stout and Ralph Buzard are running for re-election. Current Houston Mayor Sandy McDonald did not file to seek re-election.
The following is a list of candidates posted after 5 p.m. Friday. Look for more coverage of the candidates in next week’s issues of the Frontiersman.
