Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

The Valley swept the coach of the year honors in both the Railbelt and Northern Lights conferences, and three local athletes earned soccer player of the year honors for the conferences.
Jeremy Johnson, the head coach of both of the Colony Knights soccer programs, was named both the boys and girls coach of the year in the Division I Railbelt.
Palmer boys head coach Blake Livingston and Moose girls head coach Harmony Chadwick were named the coaches of the year in the Division II Northern Lights.
Colony’s Isaac Villa was named the Railbelt Conference Boys Player of the Year. Palmer swept the NLC player of the year awards, with Fischer Adams winning for the boys and Kaylee Gallego for the girls.
Colony’s Quinn Dowd, Johnny Figgins and Tyler Swartz, and Wasilla’s Toben Michaud were named to the Railbelt boys first team. Colony’s Owen Dietz and Matthew Crawford, and Wasilla’s Koen Atiken, Dawson Shumway and Sawyer DeKruif landed on the second team.
Colony’s Emily Moses, Savannah Anderson and Avrie Geigerich; and Wasilla’s Alia Shane, Makenna Hanson and Ella Hale were named to the Railbelt girls first team. Colony’s Asha Gerteisen, Hope Brazfield and Anika Long; and Wasilla’s Violet Schachle, Gracie Weisz and Abby Hill earned second-team honors.
In the NLC, Palmer’s Abby Pettit and Haven White; Houston’s Grace Gillespie and Bella Russell; and Redington’s Mya Campbell and Annareese Carroll were named to the girls first team. Palmer’s Rileigh Day and Abigail MacLean, and Houston’s Mongolian Lo are on the second team.
Palmer’s Aidan Houser, Michael Larsen, Elijah VonGunten and Aidan Kent; and Houston’s Noah Whitted and Alex Vintr were named to the NLC boys first team. Redington’s Myles Campbell, Thomas Swalling and Hayden Kearney are on the second team.
