A pair of Valley grapplers earned individual titles during the Grace Grizzly Shakedown wrestling tournament Dec. 3 at Grace Christian School in Anchorage.
Palmer’s Kael Salisbury won the 112-pound weight class and Colony’s Elijah Larsen was first at 145.
Salisbury led Palmer to a third-place finish in the team standings. Cody Vansiegman also advanced to the finals for the Moose and finished second. Palmer’s Carter Paulson (189) and Harley Watkins (215) both finished third.
Colony was fifth in the team standings with 101.5 points. Raif Floresta (189) was second and Evan Holmes (125) placed third for the Knights.
Myles Campbell (130) and Wyatt Milnes (171) both finished third for Redington.
A handful of Valley athletes also placed in the top three of the girls tournament. Redington’s Mya Campbell won the 120-pound class. Colony’s Grace Loutzenhiser was the runner-up at 100. Colony’s Adriana Furlong (120), Redington’s Mya Rhodes-Hunison (165), and Palmer’s Lillie Vansiegman (125) and Nena Trout (138) placed third.
Wasilla crowned four champions at the John Tobin Invitational Dec. 3 at North Pole.
Elijah Allen (103), Joseph Spangler (119), Thailyn Reynolds (130) and Deshawn Campbell (160) all won their weight class. Kaleb Boothby (145) and Izak Punturo (152) reached the finals and placed second. Achilles (103), Peyton Wright (125), Vincent Belotti (140), Max Moat (145), John Anderson (152) and Pedro Camacho (160) placed third.
