WASILLA — A Valley graduate has earned a collegiate honor.
Ali Marvel, a freshman on the UAA gymnastics team, has been named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women’s gymnastic freshman of the week.
Marvel was recognized for her work during the Michigan State quad meet March 17. The 2018 Mat-Su Career and Technical High School graduate scored a career-high 9.8 on the balance beam and helped the Seawolves notch the seventh-best beam total in program history. Marvel also led her team with a 9.65 on the vault.
She is just the second UAA gymnastic to be named MPSF Freshman of the Week since the conference created the award in 2015.
Marvel is one of only two Alaskans on UAA’s women’s gymnastics team. Before joining the Seawolves, Marvel was a level 10 competitor since 2015. She was a three-time Alaska Level 10 state champion, three-time regional championships qualifie rand two-time national qualifier.
