Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

WASILLA — A Colony forward and Wasilla mentor earned top hockey honors from the Mid-Alaska Conference.
Colony’s Blake Reid was named MAC Player of the Year. Wasilla’s Trent Schachle earned MAC Coach of the Year honors.
Valley players occupied five of the six spots on the first team. Reid, Wasilla forward Dillon Matson, Wasilla defenseman Aidan Goff, Wasilla goalie Aaron Campbell and Colony defenseman Carson McLaughlin each earned first-team honors. Colony goalie Roman Shepard, Colony forward Jack Holman, Wasilla forwards Dylan Harbour and Langston Bouma, and Wasilla defenseman Devin Carney were each named to the second team.
Wasilla’s Chase Schachle and Colony’s Owen McDonald, Brett Ewing and Chase Schachle were all named honorable mention.
The MAC is part of Alaska’s Division I level.
A pair of Palmer players were named first-team all-conference in the Division II Railbelt. Forwards Darian Wilson and Zach Nelius were each honored. Palmer goalie TJ O’Rourke, and Houston forwards Isaiah Squires and Riley Scott were named to the second team.
Homer swept the major awards. Forward Ethan Pitzman was named Railbelt Player of the Year and Steve Nevak earned Railbelt Coach of the Year honors.
