WASILLA -- On Jan. 5, the Mat-Su Valley Medical Center, a joint composition of the Valley Hospital and Triad Hospitals Inc., elected its first Board of Trustees. Five physicians from Valley Hospital medical staff and five local community members were seated on the new board.
The five physicians are Joseph Llewellyn, MD; Greg Lund, MD; Ellen Faucett, DO; John Hunter, MD; and Todd Pace, MD. The five community members are Vince Curry, Kathleen Kelly, Pat McKay, Sammye Pokryfki, and Stan Tucker. There will also be three ex officio (non-voting) members: Valley Hospital CEO George Larson, Chief of Staff Mike Alter, MD, and President Elect Mark Clyde, MD.
The MVMC Board of Trustees will meet monthly and oversee day-to-day operations, planning and business decisions. In addition, the board will develop and review operation and capital budgeting, oversee quality assurance, risk management, and utilization review programs.
At the board's first meeting on Jan. 26, Vince Curry was elected chairman and Dr. Joseph Llewelynn as vice chairman. Valley Hospital CEO George Larson was elected recording secretary. The board's first action as a unit was to elect to enforce three-year staggered terms for its members. Lots were drawn to establish term lengths for the current session, with Tucker, Pokryfki, Pace and Faucett drawing three-year terms, McKay, Kelley, Hunter and Llewellyn drawing two-year terms, and Curry and Lund drawing one-year terms. Once these terms expire, board members will have to seek re-election.
Election to the Board of Trustees is overseen by the Mat-Su Valley Medical Center Board of Directors, a group of five officials representing Valley Hospital and five representing Triad.
