Valley Hospital team downs UAA

The Valley Hospital team of the Women's Adult Hockey League hosted the University of Alaska Anchorage women's hockey team Saturday in a league game that demanded the best of the dominating Valley Hospital squad.

Down 3-1 coming into the third period, Valley Hospital rallied for three goals to snatch a 4-3 victory from UAA at Brett Memorial Ice Arena.

"We have a habit of doing that," said Valley Hospital defender Maribeth Weeks. "We powered up in the third period and took over the game."

UAA jumped to a 2-0 lead in the game from a shorthanded and a power play goal.

Valley Hospital's Jeannie Hebert cut the lead to 2-1 with a goal in the second period, but UAA scored again to put the lead at 3-1 after two periods of play.

Valley Hospital began its comeback in the third period with a goal by Hebert to cut the lead to 3-2.

Mindy Hardin then scored with less than two minutes remaining in the game to tie the score 3-3.

The final stake came with less than 30 seconds remaining on a break away goal by Shelly Eller to give Valley Hospital the 4-3 win.

Valley Hospital sports a 4-0-1 season record against the Seawolves' team and a 16-2-3 record overall in the five-team league.

Valley Hospital has already clinched first place for the season with eight games remaining on the schedule.
