WASILLA — The Valley Post split against a pair of Outside opponents during the first two days of the annual Todd Ryan Memorial at McManus Field in Wasilla.
Thursday, Valley Post 35/15 opened its tourney action with an 8-1 win over the California-based Team Avenue Academy. Friday, Napoleon, Ohio, beat Valley 7-4.
Buddy Dale and Robert Cottingham each finished with three hits during the win over Team Avenue Academy. Cottingham drove in two runs and scored another, while Dale finished with a run scored and an RBI. Dalton McHugill scored twice in the victory.
Valley starter Logan Sanders worked a complete game, scattering three hits and one earned run over seven innings. Sanders also fanned 10 hitters.
Friday, Napoleon used a five-run fifth to post the 7-4 victory over the Valley squad, which had led 1-0 heading into the fifth inning. Dale drove in all four Valley runs. He was 3 for 3 at the plate. Joshua Finch scored three times, and finished with two hits.
Tournament action continued Saturday night with Valley hosting Bartlett. Results were not available prior to press time.
