Valley man faces federal charges

ANCHORAGE -- A Wasilla resident appeared Tuesday in federal District Court on charges of selling 45 guns to undercover agents.

Aaron Reedy, 23, was also charged with selling cocaine to an Alaska State Trooper working undercover and being armed with a semi-automatic pistol during the drug transaction, which is a separate federal offense.

Reedy was among 14 people arrested Oct. 10 in the Mat-Su Valley on state charges for the alleged sale of illegally obtained prescription medication, cocaine, psilocybin mushrooms, methamphetamine and marijuana.

Federal agents joined the investigation in July after Reedy allegedly offered to sell 100 firearms to an undercover trooper. Seventeen of the 45 guns purchased from Reedy are believed to have been stolen, said Brad Earman of the Bureau of Firearms, Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE).

Reedy was recently injured in an Oct. 7 incidence at a Knik-Goose Bay Road home. According to documents filed in court charging 20-year-old Gordon K. Carvalho with shooting Reedy, the two had been in an argument prior to the event regarding money Carvalho believed Reedy owed him. A bullet shattered Reedy's shoulder bone and lodged in his neck, according to those documents, and he was treated at Providence Alaska Medical Center. Carvalho was charged with first-degree assault and lodged at Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility.

Reedy faces a maximum prison sentence of 45 years if he is convicted on all drug and firearm counts.

The arrests in the Valley were made by Alaska State Troopers, special agents of the BATFE, and other state, federal law enforcement officials in addition to Wasilla and Palmer police departments. The arrests culminated a nine-month investigation, according to U.S. Attorney Tim Burgess and Trooper Capt. Ed Harrington.
