PALMER — A 26-year-old man was arrested in Wasilla on Friday, saying he stabbed his soon-to-be-ex-wife’s new boyfriend on a trip to pick up his kids.
According to documents Alaska State Trooper Ryan Anderson filed in the case against Anthony D. Kitchen, the stabbing was reported at 2:21 p.m. at a home on Ellexson Road, which is in the neighborhoods near Mile 13, Knik-Goose Bay Road.
“Investigation revealed Anthony Kitchen, age 26 of Soldotna, intentionally caused physical injury to another person with a knife, physically assaulted a family member, and put two children in danger while assaulting the others,” according to an AST press release.
Kitchen showed up at the house earlier that day to pick up his two boys, a 1-year-old and a 2-year-old.
Anderson writes that Kitchen’s wife — from whom he is separated but not yet divorced — told troopers that as he was leaving with the boys in his arms, one of them knocked his head against the door frame.
The wife “confronted Anthony while he was still holding the children. Anthony was able to grab (the wife’s) arm, which (the wife) stated caused her pain,” Anderson writes.
After that, the wife told troopers, Kitchen lunged at the wife’s boyfriend, who was sitting on a bed at the time.
“(The boyfriend) yelled, ‘you stabbed me!’” Anderson writes.
Troopers also talked to the boyfriend, who related much the same story, but added the detail that Kitchen had yelled that he was going to kill him.
The boyfriend then left the house and went to a neighbor’s because he had a warrant out for his arrest and didn’t want to go to jail that night.
“Troopers observed the stab wound on (the boyfriend’s) upper left arm. There were two lacerations. The larger laceration appeared to be an entrance wound and a smaller laceration to be an exit wound. The lacerations were consistent with a bladed instrument and consistent with a right-handed attack on his left side,” Anderson writes.
Troopers tracked down the Subaru that Kitchen left the house in at his mother’s place and Kitchen at a home off of Williwaw Way.
“Anthony acknowledged going to the residence to pick up the children, acknowledged the confrontation with (his wife); however, denied ‘laying hands on her,’” according to Anderson’s report. “Anthony acknowledged, saying he was going to kill (the boyfriend) and acknowledged lunging at (the boyfriend). Anthony denied assaulting or stabbing (the boyfriend).”
The boyfriend had two cuts stitched up at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center. He was then jailed on two outstanding warrants unrelated to Friday’s incident.
Kitchen, meanwhile, was arrested for assault, DV assault and reckless endangerment and jailed at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility without a bail amount initially set. As of Monday afternoon he was still incarcerated.
