Valley players named All-State

A host of prep gridiron talent from the Valley was named to the 2002 4A All-State football squad.

A pair of Valley players were named dual first team selections. Palmer junior Junior Aumavae was named first team offensive and defensive lineman and Colony senior Auggie Manelick was named first team linebacker and punter.

Wasilla senior Abe Salmon was named first team running back, Palmer senior Ali Larijani was named first team fullback, Wasilla senior Sam Widmer was named first team defensive lineman, Colony senior Preston Pickett was named first team defensive back, Colony sophomore Rhett Magner was named first team punt returner and Wasilla senior Jeramy Walker was named first team utility player.

A trio of Knights were named to the second team. Dominic Bellotte, Jake Debuck and David Craig each garnered honors on defense.

Knight defensive coordinator Jamie Mayo was named the state's assistant coach of the year.
