Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

MAT-SU — Wasilla High School swimmers Karina Barria and Mariah Schachle and Colony diver Connor Eshelman are automatic qualifiers to the state swimming meet by virtue of their regional titles.
After gathering scores from the state’s other regional action, several more Valley swimmers will be competiting at state.
Barria won the girls’ 50-yard freestyle and 100 butterfly, while Schackle won the girls’ 1-meter dive and Eshelman the boys’ 1-meter dive at last weekend’s regionals at Kodiak. Plamer’s Kevin Snavley joins Barria as a two-event qualifier in the boys’ 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke.
Also qualifying for state are:
• Hillary Graham, Wasilla, 1-meter diving.
• Ry Obeso, Palmer, 1-meter diving.
• Noelle Graham, Palmer, 100 butterfly.
• Spencer Bloom, Palmer, 100 backstroke.
• Alex Kessler, Colony, 100 breaststroke.
