WASILLA — An early Wasilla surge combined with a Colony rally left a pair of Valley rivals facing a tie Tuesday at Wasilla High School.
Wasilla scored three times within the first nine minutes of play, but Colony collected three unanswered goals to force the 3-3 tie.
“We came out OK, had a really good scoring chance in the first minute, and then went just flat,” Colony head coach Jeremy Johnson said.
And then it was a tough 20 minutes for the Knights, Johnson said.
“All the goals were legit goals, we just made mistakes,” Johnson said.
Ethan Keenan scored twice and Cash McGregor added a goal for the Warriors within the first nine minutes of play. Oleg Lozko and Kyler Perry grabbed assists on the first two goals. Keenan recorded an assist on the third.
Colony’s Jake Spannegel put the Knights on the scoreboard with the first of his two goals at the 34th minute. During the 41st, Spannegel followed a through ball from Tanner Menard and scored on a breakaway to cut Wasilla’s lead to 3-2.
During the 67th minute, Harrison Menard ripped a shot into the Warrior net to tie the score at 3.
