Wasilla’s David Johnston was the first Valley runner across the line, completing the 26.2-mile course in a time of 3 hours, 21 minutes and 41 seconds.
Johnston, 38, was 17th among the 56 Alaskan entrants in the field and placed 4,626th overall. Anchorage’s Kevin Brinegar was the first Alaskan across the finish line in a time of 2:43:24, good enough to place 233rd.
Big Lake’s Rob Hutchison, 45, was 25th among Alaskan entrants, finishing 7,952nd overall in a time of 3:34:56.
By division, Palmer’s Mary Barrett, 53, had the best race among Mat-Su runners, finishing in 3:51:15 to place 12,309th overall — but 130th in her women’s age group division.
Kenya’s Robert Cheruiyot won the race in a time of 2 hours, 7 minutes, 46 seconds. Ethopian Dire Tune was the women’s winner, finishing in 2:25:25. Each took home $150,000, the largest prize in marathon history.
