PALMER — A pair of Valley runners recorded wins during the 31st annual Crow Pass Crossing Saturday.
Colony High School graduate Allan Spangler and Palmer’s Christy Marvin won the men’s and women’s titles respectively. The wins marked the first Crow Pass title for each runner.
Spangler recorded the fifth-fastest time in race history, with his mark of 3 hours, 1 minute and 44 seconds. Marvin nearly broke the women’s record, notching a time of 3:26:44. Marvin finished a mere 24 seconds shy of breaking a 24-year-old record held by nine-time Cross Pass champion Nancy Pease.
The annual race covers about 24 miles of the Crow Pass Trail, starting just north of Girdwood. The finish line is at the Eagle River Nature Center. The course has a peak elevation gain of 3,888 feet.
A total of 110 men and 36 women finished the race.
In the men’s race, Spangler finished about five minutes ahead of runner-up Silas Talbot. A.J. Schirack of Wasilla was fifth with a time of 3:13:23 and Cody Priest of Palmer finished seventh at 3:16:51, in the men’s race.
Marvin owned more than a 20-minute lead in the women’s race. Jessica Vetsch (3:49:59. finished second and Jaime Bronga (3:52:04. was third.
