WASILLA — A pair of Valley runners posted top-5 finishes during the loaded Tsalteshi Invitational Saturday in Soldotna.
Wasilla senior Allison VanPelt was third and Palmer freshman Katey Houser finished fifth in the girls’ standings of the meet, that featured squads from across Alaska. VanPelt posted a time of 19 minutes, 7 seconds. Houser clocked a mark of 19:25. Houser was the top freshman in the varsity girls’ race.
Houser helped Palmer place fifth in the girls’ standings. Sophie Wright finished 19th for the Moose and Lydia Ortiz was 27th. The Moose were two points shy of fourth-place South Anchorage in the standings. West Anchorage placed four in the top 22, and won the girls’ team title.
A pair of Valley juniors finished in the top 20 of the varsity boys race. Colony’s Gavin Block (17:06) finished 16th and Wasilla’s Hunter Hayes, the Region III defending champion, was 18th with a mark of 17:12. Senior Connor Owens led Palmer with a time of 17:35.
Wasilla, Colony and Palmer finished ninth through 11th in the boys’ standings.
