Valley skiers compete across Southcentral

HOMER — Sophomore Schyler Knopp finished third in a pair of races to lead the Colony Knights during the Homer Invitational in Homer over the weekend.

Knopp finished third in the 3-kilometer classic race on Saturday. Knopp posted a time of 9 minutes and 44.8 seconds on the trail on Lookout Mountain, which stands 1,100 feet above the city of Homer.

On Saturday, Knopp finished third in the 5-K skate, with a time of 18:17.07.

Abe Meyerhofer finished 15th on Friday and sixth in Saturday’s skate. Gunner Williams finished 14th on Friday and 11th on Saturday for the Knights.

Senior Caitlin Skvorc led the Colony girls with a ninth-place finish on Friday and 14th-place finish on Saturday.

Colony was the lone Valley team to compete in the event, which fetured four other squads from Region III.

Palmer at Service meet

ANCHORAGE — The Palmer Moose competed in the Service SnoBall at Service High School in Anchorage on Saturday.

Davis Dunlap and Duney Strickland each posted top-15 finishes to lead the Moose to fifth place in the team standings.

Strickland (13:35.2) finished 14th and Strickland (13:35.2) was 15th.

Kimberly and Amanda DelFrate both placed in the top-20 to lead the Palmer girls to a sixth-place finish in the standings.

Kimberly DelFrate (15:29.6) was 13th, while Amanda (15:56.9) was 17th.
