Valley skiers score top-10 finishes at Valdez

WASILLA — Colony’s Alyson Kopsack led Valley skiers during the Valdez Invitational Saturday in Valdez.

Kopsack finished sixth in the girs’ 5.4-kilometer classic race, with a time of 20 minutes, 54 seconds. She was one of a pair of Knights to place in the top 10. Cathelyne Powers finished ninth for the Knights with a mark of 21:12. Bella Block was 14th for the Knights with a time of 23:06.

Ruby Woodings led Palmer with an 11th-place finish, and time of 22:18. Caitlin Bales paced Wasilla with a 16th-place finish and time of 23:42. Palmer’s Anahelene Taylor (17th) and Amy Baxter (19th), and Colony’s Sofia Spaic (20th) also finished in the top 20.

Palmer’s Jeremy Houston led all Valley skiers in the boys’ race with a seventh-place finish and time of 29:12. Bradley Grover led Colony at 17th, with a time of 31:41. Colony’s Elic Cowan (19th) and Palmer’s Joseph Walling (20th) also finished in the top 20.

This weekend, Palmer is hosting a meet at Government Peak Recreation Area near Palmer. A 5-K freestyle is scheduled for Friday, with a 3 p.m. start. The 5-K classic starts Saturday at 11 a.m.
