Hawks fall to Kardinals

One night after knocking off the 4A Soldotna Stars on their senior night, the 3A Houston Hawks were edged by another large-school foe, Kenai.

The Kards defeated Houston 3-1 (27-25, 21-25, 12-25, 18-25).

After a thrilling first game in which the Hawks rebounded from a significant deficit to take a 27-25 win, the Kardinals were able to take three straight games from the Hawks.

Houston head coach Bill Sieben cited that all of his setters were suffering from illness or injury in the match, but Houston did get a stellar performance from one of its middle hitters.

"Courtney Elder had her best game ever," Sieben said. "We moved her to single hitter and she was going up and down the net, blocking everything. Nothing got by."
