Valley teams skated to a handful of wins over Kenai Peninsula rivals during a long weekend of prep hockey in the Mat-Su.
Houston finished 2-0-0, Palmer was 2-1-0, Colony was 1-1-0 and Wasilla was 1-0-0 in games against Peninsula foes over a three-day stretch.
Daniel Matveev netted the hat trick during a 6-3 win over Kenai. Zasim Konev, John Natekin and Andrey Efimov also scored. Konev led the Hawks with three assists. Matveev and Owen Hunter added a pair of helpers each. Dylan Shaffer had 24 saves for Houston.
The Hawks followed with an 8-2 victory over Homer. Matveev scored four goals and Efimov added a pair. Konev and Daniel Kuzmin also scored. Konev and Efimov finished with four assists each. Matveev had three assists to complete a seven-point night.
Palmer blasted Homer 14-1 to open its homestand. A dozen different players scored, and the Moose outshot the Mariners 51-15.
Palmer scored three times in the third to beat Kenai 5-3. Elijah Von Gunten led Palmer with a pair of goals and an assist. Kaleb Von Gunten added a goal and an assist.
Soldotna beat Palmer 4-1. Bryce Horacek scored for Palmer.
Colony skated to a 12-1 win over Homer. Jake Seward-Jenski scored Colony’s first three goals of the game. Jace Albers, Dane Joseph and Logan Zarones scored two goals each.
Soldotna beat Colony 5-3. Albers had an even strength and power play goal, and Toryn Coffey also scored.
Wasilla edged Soldotna 4-3. Karson McGrew scored the game-winner with 8:01 left in the game. Robert Mikulecky, Dylan Mead and Kaleb Rehak also scored.
