MAT-SU — For the first time in its history, Mat-Su Career and Technical High School received a medal at the National Science Olympiad competition at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.
Making history May 18 were Tyler Olson and Ed Russell, who placed second in the boomilever competition producing a boomilever that weighed 5.35 grams and held 10,330 grams just missing out on first place by a few grams.
In addition, the school placed 17th in gravity vehicle and Brandon Olson and Jonah Jeffries placed 20th in robot arm.
All of the Mat-Su Career Tech builders received praise for thinking outside the box on their designs.
“In general, CTHS did an awesome job representing the state of Alaska and our sponsors like BP and Mat-Su Health Foundation,” said Tim B. Lundt, Alaska State Science Olympiad director and at CTHS science teacher.
Overall, Mat-Su Career and Technical High School placed 50th out of 60 schools and Teeland Middle School placed 55th.
