WASILLA — A half-dozen Valley swimmers qualified for the final round during the first day of the ASAA/First National Bank State Swim and Dive Championships Friday in Juneau.
Four of the six will swim in a pair of events during the championship finals. Colony’s Camille Dayton finished second in the preliminaries in the girls’ 100-yard butterfly and third in the 200 individual medley. Colony’s Jake Simmons led the boys with a second-place finish in the 200 IM and third-place finish in the 100 butterfly. Palmer’s Max Snelders was third in the boys’ 50 freestyle and fifth in the 100 backstroke. Gretchen Snelders was fifth in the girls’ 50 freestyle for the Moose, and seventh in the 500 freestyle. A pair of Colony swimmers, Madeline Vig and Alexis Mattson, will swim in the girls’ 100 breaststroke finals.
