ANCHORAGE — The Wasilla Warriors bounced back from a rough day of pool play and finished second in the Silver Bracket during the Dimond/Service Invitational Saturday in Anchorage.
Mt. Edgecumbe edged Wasilla 2-0 (25, 25-20) in the bracket’s championship match. But the Warriors used a key win over a Northern Lights Conference rival earlier in the day to move forward in the bracket. Despite falling in the first game, Wasilla rebounded to beat Soldotna 2-1 (8-25, 25-20, 15-7) in the Silver Bracket quarterfinal. The Warriors followed with a 2-1 (17-25, 25-17, 25-13) win over Lathrop in the semifinals.
Wasilla was 2-6 in pool play Friday.
Palmer finished 7-1 in pool play, but had to settle for fifth in the tournament’s Gold Bracket. Chugiak beat Palmer 2-0 (27-25, 25-21) in the bracket quarterfinals. South beat Palmer 2-0 (25-13, 25-21) in elimination action.
Houston, 0-8 in pool play, finished fourth in the Bronze Bracket.
Macey Buresh and Elliot Perkins represented Palmer on the all-tournament team.
Palmer, Colony and Wasilla cap NLC regular season play this week. Palmer hosts Colony Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., and the Knights host Wasilla Friday at 6:30 p.m.
The Moose cap the regular season with home matches against Kodiak Friday at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
Palmer leads the NLC with an 8-0 mark. Kodiak is also 8-0.
Wasilla is 3-6 in the NLC and the Knights are 3-5. The NLC Championships are Nov. 7-9 in
Soldotna.
