WASILLA — When the dust had settled at Mat-Su Career and Technical High School March 2, a pair of Valley teams had claimed State Science Bowl honors.
Top honors in this year’s Science Bowl went to Mat-Su Career and Tech High School and Teeland Middle School.
The competition, offered by the Department of Energy, asks students questions in a quiz bowl format about biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, astronomy and math.
The Valley’s winning teams received a five-day, all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C., to compete in the National Science Bowl, courtesy of the Department of Energy, said Alaska State Science Olympiad Director and Mat-Su Career and Tech High School science teacher Tim Lundt.
Lundt also coached the winning CTHS team, which includes captain Chris Erickson, Jonah Jeffries, Ariel Haase, Courtney Monroe and Nate Peters.
