Valley teams win Skyview Invite team titles

SOLDOTNA — Mat-Su Valley teams ruled a Kenai Peninsula track on Saturday.

The Colony girls and Wasilla boys earned team titles at the Skyview Invitational in Soldotna.

Despite winning just two events, the Knights posted a meet-high 97.25 points in the girls’ team standings, nearly nine points ahead of second-place Kenai Central.

Megan Wilson led the Knights with a win in the long jump. The 3,200 -meter relay squad — Maria Wick, Taylor Stewart, Abby Jahn and Sydney Stewart — also finished first.

Freshman Kiera Rust won the high jump for the Wasilla girls, and the Warriros finished first in the 800 relay.

Junior John Knowles swept the throwing events to lead Wasilla to the top spot in the boys’ team standings. Knowles finished ahead of teammate Chris Lafe in both the shot put and discus.

Wasilla also finished first in the 800 relay.

Colony junior Matt Jaronik won the 200 and the long jump.

Nick Nysewander-Kellard led Susitna Valley with a victory in the 100-meter dash.
