WASILLA — The Mat-Su Borough is among seven locations where volunteers will plan and host inaugural balls for newly elected Gov. Bill Walker and Lt. Gov. Byron Mallott, according to the nonprofit Alaska Inaugural Committee.
The Mat-Su Inaugural Ball is at 7 p.m., Feb. 6 at the Curtis Menard Memorial Sports Center in Wasilla. Tickets are $50.
Additional celebrations — funded through ticket sales, sponsorships and donations — are scheduled in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau, Nome, Ketchikan, Kenai and Valdez. No state funds will be expended to host the inaugural balls.
Committee co-chairs Lindsay Hobson and Mandy Mallott say any excess funds raised by the committee will be donated to charitable organizations.
