Vasiliy Ivanovich Berestov

Vasiliy Ivanovich Berestov, 85, died Jan. 14, 2006, at his home in Wasilla.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 18, at Valley Funeral Home Chapel in Wasilla at noon. Burial will follow at Wasilla-Aurora Cemetery.

Mr. Berestov was born April 6, 1920, in Siberia. He served as a lieutenant officer in the Russian Army during World War II.

He emigrated to the U.S. as an adult and came to Alaska, where he made his home in Wasilla. Mr. Berestov was a mechanic and a Christian.

His family wrote, &#8220Vasiliy passed away a true Christian, and with his death we use as a reminder to us that we need to be ready for death, for we know not when it will encounter us.

&#8220And, if we are not of strong faith in our God and Jesus Christ his Son, then we must think twice.

&#8220He was a gentle old man with wit and humor. He shall never be forgotten. He missed his wife of more than 60 years, who passed away in February 2004. Now he gets the pleasure of being with her again in heaven, all courtesy of our God through Jesus Christ his Son.”

Mr. Berestov is survived by his stepdaughter and stepson, Lyubov Fedorova and Valeutin Fedorov of Anchorage; five grandsons, Sergie Fedorov of Seattle, Koustantin Fedorov of Vancouver, Wash., Peter Fedorov, Alexander Fedorov and Roman Fedorov, all of Anchorage, and five granddaughters, Elena Fedorova and Nadezhda Fedorova, both of Wasilla, and Yekatyzina, Nelly-Anna and Lily-Anna Fedorova, all of Anchorage.

Memorial donations may be sent to 2140 N. Misty Glenn Circle, Anchorage, AK 99502. Valley Funeral Home is honored to serve the Berestov family.
