Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Wasilla resident Vaun Rose LaDent, 52, died at Alaska Regional Hospital in Anchorage on June 10, 2004, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile collision.
A memorial service and Celebration of Life ceremony took place at 1 p.m., Thursday, at Valley Funeral Home, 151 E. Herning Ave., in Wasilla, with. Rev. Tim Carrik of United Protestant Church oofficiating.
Ms. Ladent was a lifelong resident of Alaska, born May 3, 1952, in Fairbanks. She lived on Kodiak Island for 30 years prior to moving to the Wasilla area. She had attended classes at the University of Alaska and was a graduate of Matanuska-Susitna College.
Ms. Ladent had employed herself as a commercial fisherman and lodge owner in area around Kodiak Island and Afognak Island.
Her hobbies and special interests included attending college classes, berry picking and spending time at her set net site on Hilo Beach on Kodiak Island.
Her family said, "Vaun was a giving person; mission oriented."
Her parents, Robert and Iva Ladent, precede her in death.
She is survived by her companion, William May, of Wasilla; maternal mother, Joan Becker, of Anchorage; sisters Karen Walters of Wasilla and Mary Lund of Kodiak; brothers Chuck Becker, David Becker and Thomas Becker of Anchorage, and Robert and Richard Becker of Washington; and an aunt, Eunice Sniedmiller, of Palm Springs, Calif.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorial donations be made in Ms. Lent's name to Wasilla Explorer Post 465 at any branch of Wells Fargo Bank.
