Vegetation clearing planned along state highways

MAT-SU — The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities, in consultation with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, is conducting statewide vegetation management on state highways this summer with the primary goal of improving traveler safety.

The clearing effort is planned statewide and no specific times or locations for Valley roads were available, according to Department of Transportation spokesperson Jeremy Woodrow.

He urged drivers to use caution when approaching and passing equipment and maintenance crews.

Left uncontrolled, roadside vegetation can obstruct motorists’ view of the road ahead, and can encourage moose to browse along roadways, he said.
