WASILLA — Nobody was hurt when a black Camaro caught fire on the Parks Highway Thursday night near Wasilla.

Both occupants of the vehicle – and man and a woman – were able to get out of the vehicle before it became fully engulfed in flames.

The blaze was reported at about 7:45 p.m. and extinguished within about 15 minutes. The two occupants, who did not give their names, managed to retrieve some personal items from the car, including a couple small handbags.

The car slowed traffic in the northbound lanes of the Parks Highway near the Hyer Road exit for about a half hour while firefighters doused the car with water.

Alaska State Troopers at the scene said the fire appeared to have started due to a mechanical problem.
