Velma Dorothy Peck

Velma Dorothy Peck, born Jan. 6, 1930 in Longview, Washington, attended RA Long High School and graduated in 1948. She then attended Oregon State University in Corvallis achieving a degree in Secretarial Science. She was immediately employed for Boeing Corporation, transferring later to Ogden, Utah. She met her husband, Ernest Peck, Senior in Louisiana while working on a project with Boeing. They were married and were transferred to Ridley Park, Pennsylvania where they welcomed their first child, Ernie in 1966. The trio moved to Edmonds, Washington where Ernie Sr. continued in the employ of Boeing in 1967. A year later, in June 1968, their second son, Edward, was born. Velma worked as a typist in Seattle. When her youngest was sick, she dedicated her time to start the Ronald McDonald house, supporting their mission as a typist. The family raised their children in Edmonds. They celebrated the birth of their first grandchild, in 1987. Ernest Peck Senior took a job in Anchorage in 1992 and they relocated to Alaska. Ernest Peck Senior passed away in August of 1996 and Velma moved into their retirement home on the property which was homesteaded in the 1920’s. Her youngest son, Ed, moved to Alaska and continued working at the electrical firm on the project begun by his father. He and his wife had five children who visited her frequently. Ed passed away suddenly in May of 2012. Ernie, her eldest son moved to Alaska with his family in September 2013. Velma was active in her community and her church at Good Shepherd Lutheran church in Wasilla. She was an advocate for human rights, equal rights and loved to volunteer.

She is survived by her son, Ernie, along with his wife and three daughters and four great grandchildren; her daughter-in-law, Jody Peck with her five children. She also has two nephews and three nieces. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ernie, and her son, Ed. The memorial service will be held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wasilla at 11 a.m. on Friday, January, 5 2017.
