Vendors and volunteers needed for 2022 Mat-Su Project Homeless Connect event

WASILLA— The 2022 Mat-Su Project Homeless Connect is scheduled for Jan. 26 at the Menard Sports Center. Vendors and volunteers are currently able to submit applications to participate in this annual community event dedicated to connecting the homeless and those in danger of homelessness to important resources in the Valley.

This will be a day with free, hot lunches, childcare, clothing, food items, “goodie bags” and access to vital resources.

The Mat-Su’s homeless and disadvantaged are invited to make the most out of a one stop shop type event that attempts to improve lives by connecting individuals and families to essential services and community resources. Those attending will have access to a broad range of services, including health and wellness screenings, legal services, employment assistance, food, toiletries, and so on.

Items like deodorant (men and women) feminine hygiene products, shampoo, laundry detergent soap/body wash, fruit snacks, non-perishable snacks, first aid kits, mini flashlights with batteries, toilet paper, socks, hats, and gloves will be distributed. Volunteers will also be on-site to assist participants filling out applications for housing opportunities.

This event is hosted by the Mat-Su Coalition on Housing and Homelessness.

United Way Community Impact Director, Becky Stoppa said their organization helps out every year. She said that overall vendors and vintners are slightly down this year, but she’s confident they’ll have a large amount of community support like they always do.

“It’s always very heart warming,” Stoppa said. “They recognize the need and they want to help.”
