Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Venice Montgomery, 87, a former resident of Victor, Mont., died peacefully at Heidi's Place assisted-living home in Palmer, on Sept. 3, 2001. Her oldest daughter, Mitzi, was by her side.
There will be no services. She had resided in Alaska for three years.
Mrs. Montgomery was born March 21, 1914, in Firth, Idaho, to Charles and Iola J. (Helm) Gordon.
She was a commercial photo retouch and airbrush artist in San Francisco before moving her children to Hamilton, Mont., in the early 1960s She held many jobs in Ravalli County, Mont., including that of a talented seamstress. Her hobbies included reading and woodworking.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Montgomery, and four of her sisters.
Mrs. Montgomery is survived by her sisters, Louise Daily and Joyce Borges; children, Mitzi Van Asdlan of Palmer, Rexine Hennies of Missoula, Mont., Nola Notman of Novato, Calif., and Burt Montgomery of Las Vegas, Nev.; nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Arrangements were made by Valley Funeral Home & Crematory of Wasilla.
