At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, Veterans' Day is celebrated -- and this year is no exception, as the Veterans' Wall of Honor is once again the site for the event.
Events around the country take place at 11 a.m. Nov. 11 -- to coincide with the time that Germany signed a truce with the Allies in 1918 that formally ended World War I.
U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski is scheduled to attend the service and speak at the event, as are several other representatives of veterans' organizations and groups.
During the ceremony, there will be a U.S. Air Force flyover. Barry Perkins, organizer of this year's event, said he guesses it will be around 11:15 a.m.
"We're hoping for another good turnout and a successful event," Perkins said. "Every year, it means a lot to us veterans."
The Wasilla High School band is providing the music for this year's event. They have been invited to play at Normandy. The Veterans' Wall of Honor is located on the Parks Highway next to the Matanuska-Susitna Convention & VIsitors Bureau office, near Best View RV Park.
