It is no secret that Alaska has the most veterans per capita in any state in the country. The pride in the military runs deep in the state, and in the Mat-Su Borough.
On November 11, residents across the borough will have several opportunities to honor the veterans who have served the country, whether they served one enlistment or retired, enlisted or officer, active duty, reservist or in the National Guard.
At the Veterans’ Wall of Honor in Wasilla, the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association (CVMA) Chapter 43-3 will be hosting this year's Veterans Day Event, beginning at 11 a.m., Tuesday, November 11, 2025.
A Veterans Day tribute will be held at the Mat-Su College. The event is a collaboration between the Greater Wasilla Chamber of Commerce and the college.
Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER) in Anchorage hosts an annual Veterans Day ceremony at the Alaska National Guard armory. Civilians will likely need to obtain a visitor's pass for base access.
Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District students and staff will have the day off on November 11, 2025, for the Veterans Day holiday, while the staff will have a Professional Learning Day.
The post offices and most banks will be closed on Veterans Day, but ATMs and digital banking services will remain available
Of course, many local businesses and national chains may offer promotions or free meals for veterans on November 11th. Check with businesses like Fred Meyer, Chick-fil-A, and Olive Garden for potential offers.
