The big day has finally arrived -- the first day of summer camp.
After weeks of preparation and training, counselors at Victory Bible Camp anxiously awaited the arrival of the 81 young campers from around the state. As the two busses pulled up in front of Miracle Lodge and the campers began debussing, counselors directed them to the various groups where they would spend the next five days.
"Teepee campers over there!" came one shout. "Alpine campers over there!" came from another counselor. "Ranch Camp over here!"
And so it begins. For the remainder of the week, young campers have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities, from hiking, horseback riding, swimming, boating and water skiing to canoeing, archery, riflery, crafts and skill classes. There are also Bible studies and many exciting games. There is something for everybody at Victory Bible Camp.
Victory Bible Came (VBC) is located 95 miles from Anchorage on the Glenn Highway. It is nestled in a majestic valley surrounded by the Talkeetna and Chugach mountains. There are two lakes on the grounds and nearly 500 acres to explore.
Program director, Tim Watt, said, "Campers are under the watchful eye and guidance of 35 trained counselors during their entire stay at VBC."
The camp is accredited by the American Camping Association, the Association for Horsemanship Safety and Education, and is a member of Christian Camping International.
According to Executive Director Stan Gillespie, "It is our desire to provide your child with a camping experience that is exciting, fun, safe, and most importantly, one that increases their awareness and knowledge of God."
