Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Mrs. Viola Bauer, 89, died from heart failure at home in Sutton on Dec. 2, 2003. Services will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Bauer was born Jan. 19, 1914 in Mankato, Minn. She came to Alaska in May 2002, residing in Sutton. She was employed for 34 years as a medical technician.
She enjoyed all kinds of arts and crafts, such as oil painting, wood carving, ceramics, jewelry making and china painting.
Her family said, "Viola was a sweet, quiet woman who made many new friends during the short time she lived in Alaska. She had visited Alaska many times during her life and was very happy to spend her last years among the mountains she loved to look at. They were inspiration for many of her art projects. She will be missed by all who knew her."
Mrs. Bauer was preceded in death by her husband and two children. She is survived by three children, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
