Lifelong Palmer resident, Violet J. Norbo, age 83, died on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer. She was born January 13, 1935 in a log cabin on the homestead established by her parents, Adam and Fanny Werner. Vi, the youngest of three girls, attended Palmer schools along with her sisters Hazel and Faye. After graduation from high school, she attended Warner Pacific College. When she returned home to Palmer, she began working at Matanuska Valley Bank. In 1957, she married Jonesville coal miner Jonathan Norbo, and they recently celebrated sixty years of marriage. Vi enjoyed gardening and entering the fruit of her labors in the Alaska State Fair for over fifty years. She could be seen in her immaculate gardens almost every evening from spring to fall. Vi retired from the State of Alaska, after working at the Division of Agriculture, the Matanuska Valley Federal Credit Union, and at Wasilla Public Health. Vi loved her Lord and her family dearly. Her pioneer spirit and generosity will be a treasured memory to her family and friends. Vi is survived by her husband, Jonathan Norbo, two children, Daniel Norbo, Vivian (Andy) Smith, two granddaughters, Rachel (Justyn) Smith of Peoria, IL, and Sarah (David) Edgerton of Palmer, and four great-grandchildren, Lyla, Lane, and Landon Edgerton, and Lydia Smith; and sisters Hazel (Eddie) Fisher of New Mexico, and Faye Halliwell of California. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2018 at the Palmer Church of God – 2070 Glenn Highway in Palmer. Burial will follow at Palmer Pioneer Cemetery. Pastor JR Stepp will be officiating. Arrangements cared for by Janssen’s Mat-Su Funeral Home.
