Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Palmer resident Virgil V. Reed, 70, died May 6, 2003, at his home. A private family service will be held.
Mr. Reed was born Sept. 20, 1932, in Spirit Lake, Iowa, to Claude and Allie Reed. He was raised in Washington state where he graduated from Weather Wax High School in Aberdeen and met his wife of 51 years, Marilyn. After serving four years in the National Guard, Mr. Reed was employed with Burlington Northern Railroad in Seattle, Wash.
He then relocated to Anchorage being employed with the Alaska Railroad and in the construction field before retiring to Palmer.
His family wrote, "He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved all of the outdoor activities and adventures Alaska had to offer. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.He was loved and will be deeply missed and remembered by all who knew him."
He is survived by his wife Marilyn; their five sons and spouses, Victor and Ann Reed, John and Mary Reed and Lester and Jan Reed all of Washington, Mike and Manuela Reed of Florida and Greg and Tina Reed of Anchorage; brother and his spouse Gene and Doris Reed of Washington; and many beautiful grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mr. Reed was preceded in death by his father, mother, two sisters and three brothers.
Arrangements were handled by Kehl's Palmer Mortuary.
