Volleyball jamboree scheduled, swim meet cancelled

PALMER — Local prep volleyball teams will hit the hardwood this weekend.

Palmer High School will host the Palmer Jamboree today and Saturday, a seven-team event which officially signals the beginning of the local prep volleyball season. Valdez, Anchorage Christian School, Grace Christian School, Houston, Colony and Wasilla will join host Palmer in the two-day, round-robin event.

Action starts today at 3:30 p.m., and continues Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at PHS.

Swimming meet cancelled

PALMER — Due to ongoing repairs at the Palmer Pool, the Colony Invitational swimming and diving meet scheduled for Friday and Saturday has been cancelled.

Teams from the Kenai Peninsula and the Mat-Su Valley were slated to participate.

Football game rescheduled

PALMER — The Palmer Moose will have to wait one more day to debut their brand new turf field.

Palmer’s first home football game of the season, and the first with turf at Machetanz Field, is now scheduled for Aug. 25 at 2 p.m.

The game was originally slated for Friday night, but Kodiak’s travel plans conflicted with the original game time, Palmer High activities director Jeff Thiede confirmed Thursday.

The Moose are on the road this weekend, with a game at Lathrop High in Fairbanks tonight at 7 p.m.
