Each of the local 4A volleyball squads earned Northern Lights Conference road wins over the weekend.
After losing a match to Kodiak 3-1 on Friday, Wasilla rebounded to earn a 3-2 win over the Bears the following afternoon. The Warriors notch the victory with a 15-13 win in the fifth game.
“There were lots of long rallys,” Wasilla head coach Marge Johnson said. “At that point it's anybody's game. Whoever's mentally tough.”
Sophomore Ashlen Welch enjoyed a stellar match for the Warriors, recording a team-high 21 kills. Senior Kaylee Johnson led Wasilla in the backcourt and at the service line. She recorded 17 digs, and served 24 points in the Warrior win.
On Friday, Johnson posted 16 digs.
On the Kenai Peninsula, the Colony Knights and Palmer Moose each earned a pair of wins.
Colony improved to 8-0 in region play with wins over Skyview and Homer. The Knights topped Skyview 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-17). Senior Kelcy Joynt led the Knights with 16 kills. Fellow senior Jordan Pokryfki added 19 assists.
On Saturday Colony cruised to a 3-0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-8) win over Homer.
Palmer also notched wins over Homer and Skyivew. On Friday, the Moose beat the Mariners 3-0 (25-11, 25-22, 25-17). The following day, Palmer scored a 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 31-29) win over Skyview.
Stephanie Houser recorded 16 kills and 12 blocks in the two wins.
