Two Valley organizations and two generous people from Cooper Landing have pulled together to make sure a Wasilla woman has a dry roof over her head.
This week, a large metal roof was built over the trailer of Carylee Kilgrow's Williwaw Subdivision home by LOVE Inc. and the Knights of Columbus.
The project was paid for by Frank Williams and Bob Rima, who own and operate The Drifter's Lodge in Cooper Landing, just south of Kenai Lake.
"Everyone has pulled together to get it done for me. I'm so thankful," Kilgrow said. "All of these guys were really faithful."
After Williams and Rima paid for the materials, volunteer laborers from LOVE Inc. and the Knights of Columbus turned out to help build the large metal roof, which sits on pillars and covers Kilgrow's trailer house and surrounding area.
Stairs were also installed, making it safer for Kilgrow, who said she is on disability but doesn't let it limit her.
"You are only as disabled as you want to be," Kilgrow said. "And I don't want to be."
Dick Stoeffel, who helped coordinate the program through LOVE Inc., was finishing up the project Wednesday afternoon. He said it was a team effort.
"Oh, we had six or seven volunteers who really put in a lot of time," Stoeffel said.
