Wasilla Police Department invites the community to be part of its Law Enforcement for Liaison project called “Operation Glow.” Operation Glow started at the Fairbanks Police Department by Lt. Dan Wellborn as an effort to increase the visibility and safety of children during Halloween festivities. Volunteers are needed to assemble lanyards and glow sticks at the Curtis D. Menard Memorial Sports Center at 6:30 p.m., Thursday.
The lanyards with attached glow sticks — which last six to eight hours once activated — will be delivered to local students in kindergarten through fifth-grades by officers from Wasilla, Palmer and the Alaska State Troopers. Patrol cars in participating jurisdictions also will have lanyards and glow sticks to give out between 5:30 and 9 p.m. For more information, or to volunteer, contact Sgt. William Rapson at brapson@ci.alaska.us.
