PALMER — Political signs put up by ThunderFund Inc., registered with the Alaska Public Offices Commission (APOC) to support a ‘vote no’ campaign against Mat-Su Borough Proposition B1, which would ban the sale of marijuana in the borough, were vandalized Thursday afternoon.

ThunderFund Inc. owner Tel White called an Anchorage TV station, which came in with cameras to do a piece on the vandalism. White said that during the taping, protestors across the street heckled them with cries of ‘Vote Yes.’

A ‘yes’ vote on the proposition would make marijuana sales illegal in the borough — apart from Houston.

He said his company replaced the sign with another sign, but found out that 30 minutes after the film crew left, it, too, had been vandalized.

“We did not expect our signs to be vandalized, especially in broad daylight,” White said. “We’re very quickly running out of these signs and we are on a budget, so this is really disheartening.”

The proposition is set to appear on the Oct. 4 ballot, though a lawsuit challenging its wording and legality is currently being challenged in court.
