WASILLA — Valley Performing Arts is putting on the first show of season 48 Friday, Sept. 15.

"The cast is really excited," VPA Executive Director Spencer Rotach said.

"39 Steps" synopsis: "a man with a boring life meets a woman with a thick accent who says she's a spy. When he takes her home, she is murdered. Soon, a mysterious organization called 'The 39 Steps' is hot on the man's trail in a nationwide manhunt that climaxes in a death-defying finale!"

Rotach said the cast is a great mix of new performers and seasoned VPA veterans. She said they've been rehearsing for several months and she's confident that they will impress audiences.

"I am loving this cast," Rotach said. "It's a small group but they're doing a wonderful job. They all just seem so passionate about it and they're excited to share it with everyone."

This is the first season Rotach has served as the new executive director. She said that she's volunteered with VPA since 2012 both on stage and behind the scenes. She said that VPA is a great resource for local residents for both members and audiences alike.

"I just feel so honored," Rotach said. "Community theater just brings everybody together. There's nothing quite like love theater. I describe it as magical… It's really awesome wee get to share this with our community."

"39 Steps" runs from Sept. 15 through Oct. 1. Showtimes are 7 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. on Sundays.
