Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Valley Performing Arts is accepting applications for its Summer Theatre Arts Program, which will offer three, two-week sessions for youth ages 7-11 and 12-17 who want to learn about performing arts.
This year’s educators are Kai West, Lori Zulliger and Carissa McLain. Each session will create a musical play where they learn their lines, make the costumes and set the stage for a marvelous play to be performed for family and friends enjoyment.
Returning for her third summer with the program, West’s session runs June 16 to June 27.
She has been involved with VPA for more than 15 years and has taught music in the Valley for more than 14 years. She currently teaches at Shaw Elementary.
Zulliger’s program is July 7 to 18. She is a certified teacher who currently works with Valley home school students enrolled in the IDEA program.
McLain will teacher the July 21 to Aug. 1. This is her first year instructing a VPA Summer Theatre Arts Program. She has been a music teacher for the past 15 years and began teaching music on Kodiak Island where she taught music for two years and then moved to the Mat-Su Valley where she has been part of the music programs at Sherrod Elementary School and Butte Elementary School.
Space is limited to 25 students per session and the cost is $200 per student, per session.
